Police released the identity of a man one day after he was hit by a train in San Luis Obispo.

SLOPD says 37-year-old Christopher Hackmann, of San Luis Obispo, died Wednesday morning. Officers are unsure of his cause of death, although he was hit by a train around 10:25 a.m. at the Mill Street Overpass.

Investigators are trying to figure out if he died before or after he was hit. Police say he was lying on the tracks before the collision.

"The subject had obviously been struck by the train based on the condition of his body," the press release said. However, police don’t know if that was the exact cause.

The San Luis Obispo Police are looking for the public’s assistance if anyone has information surrounding Hackmann’s death.

If anyone knows anything helpful for the investigation, they should contact the San Luis Obispo Police Department at (805) 781-7337.
