SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) – Police say a 74-year-old South Lake Tahoe man whose body was pulled from the lake on Monday may have drowned while attempting to retrieve his model airplane that crashed in the water.

South Lake Tahoe police said Wednesday officers in a police watercraft found Robert Hill floating face down in a yellow life jacket after responding to a call from someone who spotted the jacket floating about 200 yards off Light House Shores along the Tahoe Keys.

A preliminary investigation indicates Hill left his home in the Tahoe Keys to fly his model airplane at the beach at about 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Police say the death remains under investigation, but no foul play, alcohol or drugs are suspected.
