A horrific collision between a Greyhound bus and a semi-truck on an interstate in New Mexico Thursday killed at least eight including a Lompoc man, according to his family.
Ray Albrecht, 27, was moving from Missouri back to Lompoc. A semi with a blown tire crossed the median into oncoming traffic and slammed head on with the bus.
Albrecht was in the front of the bus at the time of the crash. He is survived by his young daughter Riley.
We spoke with a cousin of his who remembers the 27-year-old dad for his love of the outdoors.
"He was always hunting, fishing, camping," said Melissa Foley, Albrecht’s cousin.
"He lived for his daughter so they had a really good relationship. And he was always wanting to make people laugh. He has a YouTube account setup and he would just make silly videos and send them to us and they were ridiculous," she laughed.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for the family. It’s raised more than $3,400.
A memorial is planned for October.
