Mudslide damage forces La Casa de Maria to close doors for undetermined time

Posted

It’s been almost eight months since the devastating Montecito mudslide, and a spiritual center in Santa Barbara County is still trying to get back up and running.

La Casa de Maria and its Center for Spiritual Renewal are part of a natural sanctuary.

It has an extensive history with the Chumash tribe and has served as a peace refuge and conference center.

It was significantly damaged in the January mudslide and had to suspend all programming and retreats to focus on rebuilding.

A gas line that ruptured during the slide is on the other side of the creek.

La Casa de Maria is hoping to welcome visitors once again.

"We’re looking to everyone to help us come back," said Ann Price, La Casa de Maria Director. "We’re hopeful that the Santa Barbara community and those who have enjoyed La Casa and new friends will help us go back to being a major part of the Santa Barbara community here."

The center is also asking for donations to help with its rebuilding efforts.
