Central Coast honoring victims, heroes of 9/11 with a number of events planned

Tuesday will mark 17 years since the the terrorist attacks of 9/11. Here on the Central Coast, a number of events are planned to honor the victims and heroes of that day.

A ceremony will take place at 8 a.m. at the World Trade Center Memorial in San Luis Obispo. The public is encouraged to attend.

In Santa Maria, the fire department will commemorate the losses suffered by the nation with a simple ceremony held at each fire station throughout the city. All five fire stations will have fire apparatus pulled out on front drives of each station starting at 7:20 a.m.

A small ceremony will follow at 7:30 a.m. at the stations’ flagpole.

The City of Grover Beach will hold a memorial art show both Monday and Tuesday at Ramona Garden Park. A memorial ceremony will be held on Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. The public is encouraged to attend.

Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office will host a blood drive on Tuesday from 2 to 6 p.m. at 4434 Calle Real in Santa Barbara. 

In Orcutt, Blast is continuing Rooney’s tradition of a 9/11 Memorial. The event starts at 3 p.m. with the memorial toast at 3:43 pm. There will be bagpipes and drums.
