A man was taken into custody following a confrontation with his neighbor Sunday night that resulted in shots being fired and neighbors being told to shelter in place, according to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

Sheriff’s officials say they were called to the 4800 block of Cebrian Avenue at about 10:15 p.m.

A man was said to have had a confrontation with his neighbor. Following that, the man reportedly went into an alley and started firing a gun before going back inside his home.

Deputies surrounded the home and a shelter-in-place notification was sent out to those living nearby.

Officials say the man, whose name has not yet been released, complied with requests to come out and was taken into custody shortly before midnight.

A search of the home revealed a loaded .22 caliber handgun, according to the sheriff’s office.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
