Psychiatric technicians at Atascadero State Hospital rallied outside the facility on Monday.
Members of the California Association of Psychiatric Technicians union are calling for higher staffing levels in order to increase safety at the hospital.
Atascadero State Hospital treats mentally ill patients who were referred there by the courts or state prisons.
The rally began at 10 a.m. and was expected to continue until 2 p.m.
