Plans to save old Morro Bay building scrapped

The Morro Bay Historical Society has scrapped plans to save an old boat-shaped building on the Embarcadero.

The building, most recently home to Tognazzini’s Dockside 3 restaurant, is slated to be torn down to make way for a new development.

The Historical Society had hoped to move it and turn it into a permanent home for the organization, but after several inspections, members say the building has too many structural problems for it to be moved safely.

Historical Society members say they’ll try to save some decorative elements of the building for a future historical display and are collecting photos and other records to preserve the building’s history.

The Historical Society says anyone who made a donation specifically to move the building should contact the organization. They will refund the money or put it toward another project.
