Tommie Kunst Junior High in Santa Maria was placed on a brief lockdown Wednesday morning after reports were made that someone was near the school with a weapon.

A district spokesperson says after an investigation, it was determined the incident was just a rumor.

Maggie White with the Santa Maria-Bonia School District says police were called to the school on the 900 block of Hidden Pines Way after reports were made that someone was at the park next to the school with a weapon.

Santa Maria police were in the area for some time, but were not able to find anything, according to White.

She says officers conducted interviews with students on campus and by around 10:30 a.m. had determined the reported threat was just a rumor.

The lockdown lasted about an hour.

No other information was immediately available.
