As Cal Poly students move back into town for the start of Fall Quarter, San Luis Obispo’s "Safety Enhancement Zone" is going into effect.

From 12:01 a.m. on Friday, Sept. 14, until 7 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 24, fines for certain violations will be doubled. Those include open container, noise, deadly and dangerous weapon, unruly gatherings, and public urination.

The San Luis Obispo Police Department and Cal Poly University Police also plan to have additional officers patrolling neighborhoods in the Cal Poly area during this time.

The Safety Enhancement Zone was created five years ago to crack down on partying at certain times of the year. It is also employed around Halloween, St. Patrick’s Day, and other holidays.
