Assault suspect turns himself into Santa Barbara County Jail

(UPDATE 4:19 p.m.)-  Jeffrey Lee Smith, the man the Santa Maria Police Department was looking for Saturday night is in custody.

According to a Santa Maria Police Department press release, Smith turned himself into the Santa Barbara County Jail at about 2 p.m. Sunday.

Lee was accused of felony assault.


The Santa Maria Police Department is requesting the public’s help in locating a fugitive accused of felony assault.

SMPD officers responded to a report of a felony battery early Saturday morning. When they arrived, they found a victim who had suffered serious injuries and required treatment at the hospital.

The suspect is Jeffrey Lee Smith, 26. Smith has a warrant out for his arrest and is wanted on several felony charges including felony assault.

Smith is known to frequent Nipomo and Santa Maria.

According to the press release, he is believed to be driving a brown Chevy pickup with the California license plate #5EHH240.

Smith is considered dangerous and should not be approached. Please call 911 if you see him. All information can be reported anonymously.
