California Coast Classic Bicycle Ride brings cyclists to Central Coast

The annual California Coast Classic Bicycle Ride is arriving on the Central Coast.

The ride is a fundraiser for the Arthritis Foundation. The eight-day ride started in San Francisco and will ultimately end in Los Angeles. Some 250 cyclists will ride through different parts of the Central Coast before completing the full 525 mile ride.

On Tuesday night, hundreds of cyclists will roll into Cambria from Highway 1.  On Wednesday, bicyclists will stop in Oceano. On Thursday, they’ll end up in Buellton.

Last year, the ride had to be rerouted because of the closure of Highway 1 at Mud Creek, but the new stretch of highway was completed just in time for this year’s event.

The fundraiser has been going on for 18 years, and this year organizers hope to raise $1 million to benefit adults and children impacted by more than 100 types of arthritis and related conditions.

“It’s a dream come true,” said Shannon Marang Cox, ride director for the CCC Bike Tour. “Not only are we returning to our beloved route, our participants will have the once-in-a-lifetime distinction of being among the very first cyclists to ride 13 acres of brand new California coastline!”
