After two weeks of trial and deliberation, a San Luis Obispo County jury found Jose Luis Diaz, 47, guilty of two felony counts of committing a lewd act on a child and one count of child molesting.

The investigation began in December of 2016. Investigators say Diaz was staying at a home with a then 7-year-old victim and other family members.  While the 7-year-old’s mother was at work, prosecutors say Diaz took the victim and her cousin to a store and touched her inappropriately.  The crime was reported to Grover Beach Police that same day.  Police were later told Diaz had touched the victim inappropriately the day before while the family was at the Vine Street Parade in Paso Robles.  Evidence of another uncharged incident of child molestation on a different victim was also presented during the case.

On Monday, the jury found Diaz guilty of two felony counts of committing a lewd act on a child under the age of 14 and one count of child molesting.

A sentencing is set for October 30 at 8:30 a.m. In San Luis Obispo Superior Court.
