The City of Lompoc held a Grand Opening ceremony for Thompson Park Thursday, after an extensive renovation project.

City staff and volunteers have been working on improvements to Thompson Park since November 2017. They’ve completed projects like creating Americans with Disabilities Act compliant accessible pathways, resurfacing the playground, adding new play structures and fencing, planting trees and upgrading the baseball field.

The work totaled approximately $747,000, which was paid for with the Housing-Related Parks Program and Community Development Block Grant.

“I think it’s great, I think the more activities they have for kids, the more things they can do to help kids enjoy themselves the better,” said Lompoc resident Naomi Vasquez.

Thursday, city staff gathered on the ball field to celebrate the reopening. It is now fully open to the public.
