CAL FIRE will monitor scheduled vegetation burns in the Monterey pine forest area starting on Tuesday.

CAL FIRE has worked with the San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council over the past few months to get rid of the vegetation in danger of catching fire. After cutting and removing hundreds of vegetation piles nearby, plans will move forward in burning the trimmings to reduce fire risk.

At this point, CAL FIRE expects to burn about 450 piles of cut vegetation to finish the original mission regarding the fire safety of Cambria.

The scheduled burn in the Monterey pine forest will be ongoing and carefully supervised by the CAL FIRE crew on site.

The efforts made by Cal Fire to prevent future brush fires in the area started in 2011, and will continue this fall after the first rainfall of the season.
