Drivers on Highway 46 East will notice a traffic switch near Shandon this week, as part of the Highway 46 East Widening Project.

Drivers will be rerouted over the new Cholame Creek Bridge. The traffic switch will start at 7 p.m. Monday and end Tuesday at 6 a.m.

In the days following the traffic switch, drivers may come across intermittent lane closures on eastbound 46 during the daytime hours. Crews will be completing grading and drainage work in the area.

Drivers on the westbound side will encounter single-lane traffic through the end of October. This will allow the contractor to finish drainage work, striping, and construction in the center median.

The highway is currently being widened from McMillan Canyon Road to Lucy Brown Road. This project follows three other completed widening phases, which began near Paso Robles. The current $47 million project is expected to be finished by early 2019.
