It’s only fitting on the morning before Thanksgiving dinner to get some exercise and give back to those in need.

The San Luis Obispo County Food Bank hosted the Turkey Trot at the Pismo Beach Pier Thursday morning.

Thousands of runners, walkers, and four-legged friends showed up, some decked out in turkey hats to burn some calories for a good cause.

For one dollar, turkey-trotters had the opportunity to participate in a mile run or walk, a 5-k, or a 10-k.

“We had thousands of people show up for a small donation to help the food bank feed over 30,000 this month,” SLO County Food Bank CEO Kevin Drabinski said.

For some, this event attracted first-timers, but for others, it has become a Thanksgiving Day tradition.

“We did it last year, together, without the dogs, but this year we have our little companions here,” Sandie Cano said. She and her good friend Lyn Paulos came with two golden retrievers in tow.

Drabinski said all the participants turned out with enthusiastic support to help those in need. To donate to the SLO County Food Bank, click here.
