The Los Padres National Forest is recruiting women interested in firefighting careers.

It’s part of the 5th annual Women in Wildfire Training Camp. It includes specific training for entry-level firefighters. Participants will learn basic knowledge about the Incident Management System, firefighting techniques, suppression equipment, safety, strategy, tactics, and fire behavior. Those who participate will also receive leadership and career development training.

The five-day, four-night camp will be hosted in Santa Barbara from March 24 to March 29. If selected, participants will be paid for the training and physical fitness test portion of the camp. They’ll stay in cabins, and meals are provided, but full attendance is mandatory.

The Forest Service says graduates will be competitive when applying for temporary seasonal wildland firefighter positions, which support fire operations over the summer.

The deadline to apply is Sunday.
