Authorities have identified the surfer who was hospitalized after nearly drowning at Morro Rock.
Firefighters confirmed on Sunday that Craig Ainsworth was hospitalized after the incident on Saturday, but weren’t able to provide an update on his condition.
Harbor Patrol first received reports about a non-responsive man at Morro Strand Beach around 8:30 a.m. Saturday.
Emergency crews arrived at the scene and found two off-duty ambulance personnel trying to revive him.
“It takes a lot of people to perform a water rescue and have a successful CPR. It starts with the citizens first on scene and a lot of City employees from Harbor, PD, and Fire,” said Fire Chief Steve Knuckles.
More information is expected to be released about the citizen response on Sunday or Monday.
It is unclear what caused the surfer to become unresponsive.
