CHP releases name of driver, skateboarder killed in Nipomo

California Highway Patrol released the name the man killed while riding his skateboard in Nipomo early Saturday morning. They also released the name of the driver.

CHP identified 24-year-old Matthew Diaz as the victim.

Diaz was hit while riding his skateboard in the southbound lane of Frontage Road, near Hill Road, Friday night.

The driver was identified by CHP as 30-year-old Miguel Cuevas. Officers said there are no shoulders on the road where the crash happened and the driver did not see the skateboarder.

Officers do not know which direction the skateboarder was traveling in and do not believe drugs or alcohol to be a factor in the collision.

CHP said the incident is still under investigation.
