Kmart is no longer in Santa Maria. The department store chain closed its Santa Maria location on Sunday.

Sears, which owns Kmart, announced it would be closing 80 Sears and Kmart stores across the nation.

According to CNBC, the company may be forced to liquidate entirely.

Sears filed for bankruptcy in October 2018. At the time, a little under 700 stores were operating across the nation. The company said it would close 142 unprofitable stores. A month later, it announced another 40 stores would be closing.

Four other California Kmarts are impacted, including Stockton, Apple Valley, Burbank, and Auburn.

There are still Sears locations in Santa Maria and Santa Barbara, but no plans have been announced regarding those stores.

Santa Maria’s city manager has not announced plans for the old Kmart location but says he will work with interested businesses in the future.
