A nearly month-long demolition project to tear down an old building in Lompoc is done.
The city posted on Instagram Wednesday that the Ruskowski Building off H Street in Old Town Lompoc had been fully demolished.
The post then asked people to share what type of businesses they hope to see in the area next.
The building had been deteriorating for several years.
When the demolition project began in March, the owner of the building told KSBY that it would have cost millions of dollars to retrofit the building and it wasn’t worth the cost.
Now that the building is gone, it will be available for someone else to develop.
Most nearby residents and businesses are excited about the possibilities, and they’re hopeful the developer will keep the area’s old town charm in mind.
The Lompoc Filipino-American Club wasn’t happy with the demolition because the organization had recently placed a mural on the building. The organization says the mural was worth upwards of $18,000.
