A group of local nurses is back on the Central Coast after a one-week trip to Guadalajara.

A total of 14 nurses went on the trip, including eight from Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and one from Twin Cities Community Hospital.

It was part of a collaboration with Universidad Autónoma de Guadalajara and California State University, Monterey Bay. The trip was part of the Global Health Course in the BSN program.

According to a Tenet Healthcare spokesperson, the nurses conducted clinical rounds in the mornings in different cities. They took blood pressure screenings, height and weight measurements, and conducted blood glucose testing.

In the afternoon, the nurses attended classes at the university, which focused on health disparities and access in the Hispanic culture. The classes included a Spanish language curriculum.

Tenet Healthcare says the nurses had opportunities to learn about the culture by visiting local museums and markets.
