Community members in Santa Maria gathered on May Day to honor immigrant and working families in the city.
Wednesday is National Day of the Worker.
People gathered in front of Santa Maria City Hall for a rally. They later marched down Broadway.
Those involved in the event say they are advocating for workers’ rights, including unionization and affordable housing.
“We really need to be looking at working families, and the kind of living places they can afford and making more of those affordable for middle and low-income families,” said Abraham Melendrec, a Community Organizer with CAUSE.
After Wednesday’s march, community members gathered to listen to speakers, including Santa Maria Councilmember Gloria Soto.
