A celebration of rodeo culture continued Saturday as part of the 76th annual Santa Maria Elks Rodeo and parade.
Several roads were closed Saturday to make way for the annual rodeo parade.
The parade ran along Broadway near Highway 135 and featured several bands, floats, horses and a color guard.
Participants competed to earn enough points to make it to the National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas this December.
The list of winning floats includes:
BEST OVERALL FLOAT – TRI COUNTIES REMOTE CONTROL MODELERS
BEST MUSICAL UNIT – TOMMIE KUNST JR. HIGH SCHOOL BAND
BEST COMMUNITY ENTRY – SANTA MARIA MODEL A CLUB
BEST MOUNTED GROUP – KINGS COUNTY SHERIFF’S POSSE
BEST YOUTH ENTRY – FIRST 3512 SPARTATRONIKS ROBOTICS TEAM
“It definitely brings us together. We’re able to see each other, people you aint seen in a while, they’re out here. I believe that it definitely reflects who we are as a whole, basically,” said Eleazar Ponce, a Santa Maria resident.
The rodeo continues with events all day Sunday. For more information, click here.
