The LGBTQ community in the Five Cities celebrated their inaugural pride event in Arroyo Grande Saturday.

Community members came out and forward for the Pride event at Heritage Square park.
The event featured local entertainment, a youth lounge and a resource fair.

The event was a long time coming for folks in the Five Cities LGBTQ community, who before were limited to Pride events in San Luis Obispo and more recently in Santa Maria.

“I think one of the most important things in the queer community is having a space and finding people who you feel comfortable with, who you can have experiences with, who you can bond with, who you can speak to and feel comfortable and all of that,” Denis Aguilar, Board Secretary of 5 Cities Pride.

Aguilar says the Pride event is an easy, low key event to have a safe space for people in the LGBTQ community.
