UPDATE: Police have identified the victim as Deandre LeJames Valrie, 25.

ORIGINAL STORY: Lompoc police are working around-the-clock, investigating the city’s fifth murder since March.

Police were called to the 600 block of N. 4th Street at about midnight Sunday where investigators say they found a man shot in the chest. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Lompoc police say they have not identified any suspects.

“According to witnesses in the area, the suspect is potentially Hispanic male dressed in all black on a bicycle… rode his bike up to the vehicle where he confronted the victim and he shot into the vehicle, striking the victim numerous times in the upper torso,” said Lompoc Police Detective Sergeant Agustin Arias.

The name of the victim has not been released. Police say he had a young child and another on the way.

“It’s a very unfortunate event. I mean, here’s a young man who is 25-years-old and a new father. Now he doesn’t get a chance to do that and his children won’t get a chance to meet him,” Arias said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Lompoc Police Department. Anonymous tips can also be made through the department’s mobile app.
