Many teachers are starting school with empty classrooms, but some in the Orcutt Union School District are taking after professional sports by filling desks with cardboard cut-outs of students.

Ms. Riezebos, a fifth and sixth grade teacher at Pine Grove Elementary School in Santa Maria, made cardboard cutouts of her students.

Some cut-outs are wearing masks but all are practicing social distancing.

At Alice Shaw Elementary School in Santa Maria, teachers encouraged students to bring cardboard cutouts of themselves when picking up school supplies last week.
