4.3-magnitude earthquake hits near Northern California coast

A 4.3-magnitude earthquake hit Saturday morning near the coast of Northern California roughly 21 miles west of Petrolia, Calif., according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 3.6 miles nearly 40 miles from Eureka, Calif. and about 50 miles from McKinleyville, Calif., according to a map on the U.S. Geological Survey website.

The Los Angeles Times reports there has been one earthquake of magnitude 3.0 or greater centered nearby in the past 10 days.
