LOS ANGELES (AP) - A 27-year-old transient convicted of beating and stabbing a Southern California couple to death in their home has been sentenced to life in prison without parole.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office reports Luke Fabela was sentenced Friday.

He was convicted last May of killing 89-year-old Armie "Troy" Isom and 75-year-old Shirley Isom and stealing their cellphone.

The couple was attacked the day after Christmas 2014 in their hillside estate in the Los Angeles suburb of La Verne. Only their cellphone was taken.

Prosecutors say DNA evidence from a swab taken while Fabela was jailed for auto theft linked him to the killings.

Authorities say Fabela had no permanent address and was living with relatives and acquaintances when the killings occurred.
