REEDLEY, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a motorist arrested following a California crash that killed 8-year-old child was driving without a license.

The California Highway Patrol says a car driven by Daniel Lemus failed to stop at an intersection and plowed into the passenger side of a sedan Friday evening near Reedley.

The CHP says two people in the sedan were able to get out of the vehicle with the help of bystanders. The child was freed from the car and rushed to a hospital. Officials say it was determined that the child died on impact.

The Fresno Bee reports Lemus was not injured and arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and driving unlicensed. It wasn't known Sunday if the 21-year-old has an attorney.
