An Arroyo Grande man pleaded not guilty this week to first-degree murder in connection with the deadly beating of a man in Grover Beach last week.

The San Luis Obispo County District Attorney’s Office says Nicholas Sage Coronado-Waterman entered the plea in San Luis Obispo County Superior Court Wednesday during his continued arraignment.

The 25-year-old remains behind bars at San Luis Obispo County Jail.

The DA’s Office says he used a rock to beat Andres Martinez in the parking lot of a strip mall near the intersection of East Grand Avenue and Oak Park Boulevard in the early-morning hours of March 23.

Martinez was taken to the hospital where he died.

Coronado-Waterman is due back in court April 15.

Criminal arraignments are one of the court services still taking place while shelter-at-home orders are in effect.
