A dog shot by police in San Luis Obispo Thursday has died.

His owners tell KSBY News Bubbers, a 7-year-old boxer mix, passed away Thursday night.

San Luis Obispo police say two officers were responding to reports of a burglary on Santa Rosa Road between Walnut and Peach streets late Thursday morning when the dog ran toward them in the driveway in a threatening manner.

One of the officers then fired shots at the dog.

Owner Nick Regalia calls the officer's actions excessive.

This is a developing story and will be updated as information becomes available.
