You may notice some local police departments changing up their badges in the coming days.

The Morro Bay Police Department is among agencies participating in the Pink Patch Project during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The specially-designed pink patches are intended to encourage public awareness about early detection and treatment in the fight against this disease, according to the police department.

The patches can be purchased for $10 from MBPD, 850 Morro Bay Blvd., or from individual officers.

Proceeds will reportedly be donated to a local breast cancer awareness group.

Grover Beach police are also participating in the Pink Patch Project.

In Atascadero, some officers there are wearing anniversary badges.

Police say the 1913 replica badges were issues in 2013 as part of Atascadero's Centennial Celebration and those who worked that year are authorized to wear the badges during the Colony Days Celebration next weekend.
