San Luis Obispo County is reporting 16 confirmed cases of COVID-19 as of Friday afternoon.
Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein said at a press conference that of those cases, seven of the patients are between the ages of 19 and 64 and most have underlying health conditions or significant travel history. Nine of the patients are 65 or older.
Seven of the patients are in North County, five are in South County, three live along the coast, and one is from the central area of the county.
Dr. Borenstein says all of the patients are isolated at their homes and some are nearly recovered.
The Public Health Department has conducted 261 coronavirus tests to date. WestPac Laboratory has conducted 282 tests, including some cases from Santa Maria. The laboratory sends its specimens to the company's national lab in Texas for testing.
Dr. Borenstein says she expects the number of positive cases to continue to rise.
