The city of Solvang is declaring a public health emergency in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

According to a press release from city officials, the city has also established a $250,000 Emergency Loan Assistance Program for small businesses suffering from the lack of business due to COVID-19.

The loan assistance program, funded by city reserves, is intended to meet emergency cash flow needs for small business owners as they wait for U.S. Small Business Administration Economic Injury Disaster Loan applications to be processed, said the press release.

City officials say these loans will also allow businesses in Solvang to keep more workers employed during the pandemic. The loan program would also provide for micro-loans of up to $5,000 per applicant.
