Nearly two dozen drivers lined up to show their support for the staff and patients at Mission Hope Cancer Center in Santa Maria Monday.

The parade was organized by local supporter Christina Martins, who decided to plan the celebratory convoy for the cancer center after the annual Day of Hope event was postponed due to COVID-19 concerns.

Drivers on Monday made their way by Marian Regional Medical Center and then through the Mission Hope Cancer Center parking lot greeting patients, staff and volunteers.

"We can't thank these people enough for the front line they do. I mean, they're giving up everything… they're quarantining themselves, they're giving up their time and… this is the least we can do as a community - come out and say, ‘Thank you, we appreciate it. We love you, just keep doing all you can for us’,” said Santa Maria resident Jay Conner.

Day of Hope was rescheduled for August.
