Fifth death from COVID-19 reported in Santa Barbara County

Santa Barbara County reported a fifth death from COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Health officials say the person who died lived in the northern part of the county and was over the age of 70 but did not have underlying health conditions.

The total number of confirmed cases in the county rose to 429, an increase of 13 since Monday.

Health officials say 42 coronavirus patients are in the hospital and 13 of them are in the ICU. Another 178 patients are recovering at home, while 183 people have recovered.

The health department is awaiting information on 21 additional patients.

The county reports that 53 of the total confirmed cases are health care workers, and 99 cases are related to an outbreak at the federal prison in Lompoc.
