Santa Barbara County is reporting the first death in the county as a result of COVID-19.
At a news briefing on Wednesday, Health Officer Dr. Henning Ansorg said the patient who died lived in the northern part of the county, was in their 60s, and had underlying health conditions. The patient was reportedly in intensive care at Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria.
Dr. Ansorg said the county has 12 new positive cases of coronavirus as of April 1, which brings the county's total of confirmed cases to 111.
Health officials say 65 of those patients are recovering at home and 23 have fully recovered. Accounting for Wednesday's death, there are 16 patients in the hospital, including 12 who are in the ICU. The status of the remaining six patients is pending.
