The Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office announced Wednesdsay that it is currently handling a new COVID-19 outbreak at the Main Jail.
In a statement today, the Sheriff's Office reports several inmates living in the male basement dormitory reported symptoms of COVID-19 to staff on Tuesday, Feb. 2. Inmates in two different units were tested and 26 of them tested positive.
The jail is currently separating those who tested positive from those who tested negative. Those who contracted the virus will be under quarantine for 14 days. All of the inmates affected will be monitored by jail medical staff, according to the statement.
Contact tracing efforts are underway to find the source of the outbreak, and identify anyone who may have been exposed.
