Athletic workouts for student athletes at Righetti High School are suspended after district officials say a student has tested positive for COVID-19.
Santa Maria Joint Union High School District Officials say the student had attended a large, private Halloween party in Orcutt and notified school staff of their positive test result this week.
Officials say the student is quarantining for 14 days, along with a second student, who was at the same party and may also be infected.
All athletic work-outs have been canceled for two weeks as a precaution, officials say.
“The Santa Maria Joint Union High School District is concerned about any potential spread and has monitoring and tracking measures in place. In general, it’s impossible for schools to protect or predict the behavior of young people outside of their boundaries. No additional information is available at this time,” according to a district press release.
Righetti High School students have not returned to the classroom and will continue with distance learning.
St. Joseph High School in Orcutt informed families Tuesday it would be closing the campus for two weeks after one of its students tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a party last Friday.
