A new countywide order for Santa Barbara County mandating the use of face coverings in certain situations will go into effect Tuesday at 5 p.m.

People will be required to wear a face covering under the following circumstances:

  • When inside of or in line to enter any and all businesses
  • When using public transportation, a private car service, or a ride-sharing vehicle. Drivers of these services must also wear a face covering while driving or operating vehicles regardless of whether a member of the public is in the vehicle
  • All businesses must require employees, contractors, owners, and volunteers to wear a face covering at the workplace and at off-site work locations

The order does not apply to people who are unable to wear a face covering because of medical reasons or children under the age of 13. Those who work by themselves or at a business that is not open to the public will also be exempt.
The order will be in place until 5 p.m. on June 30, 2020, or until it is rescinded or extended by the County Health Officer.
