Santa Barbara County is restricting beach activities over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

County officials say beach access will be allowed only for active physical activity, such as water sports and running, walking, or riding a bicycle.

Sitting, lying, standing, sunbathing, sight-seeing, and picnicking will not be allowed. Beach umbrellas, tents, barbeque grills, sand toys, coolers, and beach chairs will also be prohibited.

The restrictions will be in effect from 12:01 a.m. on Friday, September 4, until 11:59 p.m. on Monday, September 7.

Health officials say the restrictions are being put into place in an attempt to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
