A Santa Barbara Police officer has tested positive for COVID-19.

Santa Barbara police said the officer's last day on the job was Thursday, March 12. They were isolating at home out of Santa Barbara County when they began to feel sick and are now quarantined there and recovering, police say.

A second officer tested negative, police say, and a third officer's results are pending.

Police say extensive cleaning, social distancing and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are taking place at both the police and fire departments, adding that extensive COVID-19 mitigation measures started at the departments in early March.

As of Thursday afternoon, there were 139 confirmed COVID-19 cases in Santa Barbara County.
