The Santa Barbara County Fair in Santa Maria will likely join the list of state fairs canceled this year.
As of now, the fair's website says it is set to take place July 15-19 at the Santa Maria Fairpark, but those plans could change early next week.
At a June 2 meeting, fair officials say staff expects the board will decide to cancel this year's event "because many of the vendors, exhibits and carnival have said it's hard to mobilize for just one fair. Given that, it is hard to see a way to move forward."
Earlier this year, dozens of fairpark employees were laid off as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic's economic consequences.
