San Luis Obispo County added 195 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday, bringing the county's total to 8,090 confirmed cases as of December 16.
It's the second highest single-day increase in the county since the pandemic began.
Twenty-nine people are hospitalized, including seven patients who are in the ICU. Another 1,494 people are recovering at home and health officials say 6,504 people have recovered.
San Luis Obispo County also reported two additional deaths Wednesday, bringing the county’s total to 54 deaths attributed to COVID-19.
Public health officials say the people were in their 60s and 70s and had underlying health conditions.

The location of 26 additional cases is under investigation, and another 10 are listed as "other," which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The Public Health Department is not identifying those locations.
Community COVID-19 testing sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach, and Nipomo.
