San Luis Obispo County is reporting the death of another person who tested positive for COVID-19.
Health officials say the patient was in their 80s and had underlying health conditions.
San Luis Obispo County also added 343 new cases of COVID-19 over three days, bringing the county's total to 8,803 confirmed cases as of December 21.
On Saturday, the county reported 229 new cases, the highest single-day case count since the start of the pandemic. Another 60 cases were reported on Sunday and 54 cases were reported on Monday.
The county's previous record was set on December 10, when 196 cases were reported.
Forty-one people are hospitalized, including nine patients who are in the ICU. Another 1,782 people are recovering at home and health officials say 6,909 people have recovered.
San Luis Obispo County has had 60 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

The location of 28 additional cases is under investigation, and another 11 are listed as "other," which includes communities with fewer than five cases. The Public Health Department is not identifying those locations.
Community COVID-19 testing sites are currently open to the public in San Luis Obispo, Paso Robles, Morro Bay, Grover Beach, and Nipomo.
