Early results show a close race between Jordan Cunningham and Dawn Addis for the 35th State Assembly District seat.
As of 9:15 p.m., the incumbent, Cunningham, had nearly 51% of the vote to Addis' 49%.
In a statement, Cunningham told KSBY News, “This election - like all of 2020 - has been unprecedented. Given the impacts COVID-19 has had on the electoral process, and the major changes in how and when people are casting their ballots, it is likely impossible to determine the winner of this race tonight."
"We don't know yet exactly what's gonna happen with these numbers but what I do know is people came out to vote in record across Assembly District 35 because they are excited for change and I am just very concentrated on being grateful for all of the work everyone has done over these past few months," Addis said.
The 35th District represents San Luis Obispo County and northern Santa Barbara County in Sacramento.
Cunningham has served in the State Assembly since 2016. Addis is a Morro Bay City Council member.
