Firefighters responded to a brush fire just west of the Tajiquas Landfill in the Gaviota area on Thursday.
The fire was reported shortly before 4 p.m. in Baron Canyon.
According to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, firefighters arrived to find the fire burning in heavy brush in steep terrain.
By 5:15 p.m., firefighters said forward progress of the fire was stopped. It had burned an estimated two to three acres.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
