The San Luis Obispo County Fire Safe Council is getting $3.9 million in grant funding for wildfire prevention.

The money is part of $200 million approved by the California legislature for fire prevention and forest health grants to help prevent destructive wildfires.

Senator Bill Monning (17th District) sponsored the legislation, SB 1079, that made the funding possible.

Monning, San Luis Obispo County Supervisor Debbie Arnold, and representatives from the SLO County Fire Safe Council gathered Friday for a press conference in Atascadero to celebrate the grant funding.

“This is a step towards prevention investment in trying to reduce the risk of these catastrophic fire incidents,” Monning said.
